In Loving Memory of Derek Allen McLendon
Derek Allen McLendon, Age 46, passed away on February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 19, 1979, in Pensacola, Derek was the beloved son of John (Buck) A. McLendon Jr. and Margaret McLendon.
Derek graduated from Crestview High School in 1998 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, graduating cum laude from the University of West Florida in 2002.
In 2010, Derek answered the call to serve by joining the United States Air Force Reserve. Through dedication and determination, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant working as a Combat Aviation Advisor (CAA #745) with the 711 Special Operations Squadron. In 2025, Derek was medically retired from the Air Force after 15 years of honorable service. At the time of his passing, Derek was continuing his service to the country as a Civil Servant with the Department of the Air Force.
Derek’s greatest love was Deanna and his family. He treasured the time spent with his fellow brothers in service and friends. He was a passionate fan of Florida State football, NASCAR, and the Tampa Bay Rays. He loved playing golf, attending concerts and live sporting events, and spending time outdoors kayaking and canoeing. Derek was also an excellent cook who took pride in grilling and smoking meals that brought his friends and loved ones together.
Above all, Derek will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, and unwavering love for those around him. His presence filled every room, and his legacy of service, devotion, and friendship will live on in all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Buck McLendon, and his brother, Trey McLendon.
He is survived by his devoted partner, Deanna Simons; his loving mother, Margaret McLendon; his brother, Eric McLendon (Michelle); his sister, Lacey Williamson (Eron); his cherished nieces and nephews, Taylor Brown, Patrick McLendon, Cameron Williamson, and Gage Williamson; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. at Wisteria, 3808 N 12th Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32503.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Escambia County Humane Society, honoring Derek’s love for dogs and his beloved Coltrane.
Derek will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
