Dorothy Goodwin Callaway, known warmly to those close to her as “Dede,” passed away on July 14, 2026, having just celebrated her 77th birthday. Born on July 3, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, Dorothy embodied a life richly filled with love, devotion, and an enduring spirit.
Dorothy’s warmth and energy radiated to all around her. Those who knew her remember her as a kind, generous soul, celebrated for her great sense of humor and a remarkable, fiery spirit that brought light and resilience to any room she entered. Fiercely devoted to her family and friends, Dorothy’s loyalty and love were constants in the lives of those she cared for. She had a rare ability to stand as a source of strength and comfort, ensuring that everyone felt supported and cherished.
A proud Georgia Bulldog football fan, Dorothy’s passion for the game was matched only by her love of reading. She delighted in immersing herself in books, always eager to share a new story or recommend a favorite author to those around her. Her compassion extended beyond people to animals, as she was a steadfast helper to creatures in need—a testament to her generous heart. To Dorothy, few moments compared to spending time surrounded by friends and family, where laughter and love flowed effortlessly.
Dorothy’s loving family was her greatest pride and joy. She is survived by her devoted husband, Patrick Callaway, and her beloved daughters, Kelly Deman and Kerrie Callaway. Dorothy’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Katelyn Callaway, Colton Deman, Braden Deman, and Camryn Deman, and her great-grandchildren, Zahra Vargas and Fiona Vargas. Also grieving her passing is her dear sister, Caroline Gibson, along with her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Harris Goodwin, and her mother, Dorothy Corbett Goodwin, both of whom she cherished deeply.
Dorothy Goodwin Callaway leaves a legacy of kindness, spirited enthusiasm, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed, remembered for her humor, generosity, and the indelible mark she made on all who were fortunate to know her.
