James Leon Carman

James Leon “Jim” Carman, born February 20, 1937, to James Norman Carman and Eva Fischer Carman, passed away peacefully at his home in Crestview, Florida, on August 30, 2026.

Jim is survived by Neoma Broadfield Carman, his beloved wife of 65 years; his sons, Keith Carman and Thomas Carman; his daughter, Andrea Adams; his grandchildren, Amber Haugen, Laura Carman, and Kody Carman; his great-granddaughters, Madilynn Ellis, Emilee Ellis, and Sadie Ellis; and his sister, Marie Basset, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva Carman; his brothers, Glen Carman, Dale Carman, and David Carman; his sister, Margaret Ann Thomas.

Jim graduated from Denmark Academy High School in Denmark, Iowa. He continued his education at Park College in Missouri and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Jim dedicated 20 years to serving his country. During the Vietnam War, he served as a B-52 gunner. On May 14th, 1973, Jim was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. On October 1st, 1974, Jim was awarded the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement while participating in aerial flight. Jim was also awarded many numerous other commendations.

After retiring from the Air Force on December 31, 1976, Jim began a second career with the City of Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served as maintenance supervisor for the city’s transit system. He later moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and held a similar position with the city’s transit system. Following his retirement, Jim settled in Crestview, Florida, where he lived with his wife and remained close to his family until his passing.

Jim will be remembered for his devoted service to his country, his strong work ethic, and his enduring love for his family.
