James Michael “Mike” Crumpton May 17, 1944 – June 23, 2026
James Michael “Mike” Crumpton passed away on June 23, 2026, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, after a brief illness. He was 82 years old.
Mike was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to James and Mozelle Crumpton. He spent his early years in Memphis and, after graduating from high school, proudly enlisted in the United States Navy.
During his distinguished 20-year naval career, Mike served aboard the USS Leahy, USS Princeton, USS England, and USS Goldsborough. He participated in the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program (NESEP), attending the University of Mississippi, and later earned a degree in Information Management from California State University, Fullerton.
Fifteen years ago, Mike and his wife, Jane, made their home in Freeport, Florida. Together they enjoyed spending time at the beach, riding motorcycles, and traveling. They especially looked forward to attending USS Goldsborough veterans’ reunions held across the country. Above all, however, Mike cherished family gatherings and treasured the time spent with those he loved.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Gordon Crumpton; his two sons, James of Los Angeles, California, and Tim of Gulfport, Mississippi; his daughter, Julie Harris; his grandchildren, Tommy Harris and Caitlyn H. Batelle, both of Los Angeles, California, and Grayson Gibson of Germantown, Tennessee; and his sister, Susie Brooks of Mandeville, Louisiana.
A memorial service and burial will be held on August 1, 2026, in Medina, Tennessee.
