In Loving Memory of James H. Wrench, Jr.
February 1, 1934 – October 19, 2026
James H. Wrench, Jr., lovingly known to family and friends as Jim, Jimmy, Dad, and Poppy, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born in Folkston, Georgia, Jim was raised in a large, loving family that instilled in him the values of grace, kindness, community, and a strong work ethic. These principles became the foundation of his character and remained evident throughout his remarkable 92 years.
Jim was the son of James H. Wrench, Sr., and Sara Frances Wrench. Along with his sister, the late Mary Lou Heidt, he was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where he graduated from Landon Senior High School in 1952.
Following high school, Jim continued his education at the University of Florida, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. In 1957, he answered the call to serve his country by taking an oath to join the United States Army, continuing his military service with the U.S. Army Reserves.
In 1961, Jim began a new chapter in both his professional and personal life. Following his military career, he joined IBM Corporation, where he would enjoy a long and successful career. During this same period, he began building a family with his first wife, the late Sandra Jones. Their marriage of eight years blessed him with two children, a son, James III, affectionately known as Jay, and a daughter, Marcelite.
Jim's advancing career with IBM eventually brought him to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he would make his home for the next 61 years. It was there that he established lasting friendships, built a fulfilling life, and became part of the community he would call home for the remainder of his years.
In 1976, Jim was blessed to find love again when he married the late Patricia E. Bell Meyer. Patty brought her own children, Stephen and Scott Meyer, into their blended family. Together, Jim and Patty built a loving home and shared an enduring partnership that lasted 35 years.
After more than 32 years with IBM, Jim retired in 1992 and embraced a new chapter filled with the activities, people, and simple pleasures he loved most.
For the next 34 years, Jim enjoyed a retirement rich in friendships, adventure, and cherished memories. He found joy in cooking for others, spoiling every animal that entered his home, and embarking on wonderful travels around the world with Patty and their lifelong friends.
Jim especially treasured time spent keeping up with grandchildren, enjoying the peace and satisfaction of working in his workshop and yard, and sharing the friendly competition and lasting camaraderie of his fellow Bridge Club members.
Whether he was preparing a meal, tending to a project, enjoying a game of bridge, or spending time with those he loved, Jim approached life with the same kindness, dedication, and generous spirit that had defined him since childhood.
His life was a beautiful reflection of the values he held dear: love of family, service to others, hard work, friendship, and an appreciation for life's many blessings.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, wonderful memories, and the many lives made better simply by having known him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.

Jim's family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the many relatives, friends, neighbors, and medical professionals who offered encouragement, kindness, and comfort throughout the past year.
