(Frank) John Franklin Pledger

John Franklin “Frank” Pledger, 85, of Panama City, was born on November 4, 1940. A lifelong Floridian, Frank was deeply rooted in the community and family he loved throughout his life.

Frank’s early years were shaped by his commitment to his country as he proudly served in the United States Navy as an Office Machine Operator for four years. His pride as a Navy veteran was a cherished part of his identity, reflecting the steadfastness and discipline that defined him.

Following his military service, Frank dedicated 45 years of service to the United States Postal Service. He earned the nickname “Pogo” because they could bounce him around wherever he was needed, and he would always get the job done. No task was ever too big or too small for him, though if you asked him, he probably preferred the smaller ones.

Frank is survived by his daughter, Xenia Pledger, and son-in-law, Monty Odom; his daughter, Makayla Swindell and partner Richmond Direnzo, and daughter Allisha Swindell; his brother-in-law, Willard Dean; sister-in-law, Dolores Pledger; nieces, Christa Dean Davis and Arolyn Pledger-Earp; nephew, Hal Pledger; and longtime best friend, JR Reynolds.

He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Genesis, Letty, Alidiea, Malaisha, Marla, Allenia, Clayton, Mykell, and Aedan; along with great-grandchildren Dellakate, Johanna, Zionna, Ema, Sutton, Remington, and Swaydee.

Frank was preceded in death by his father, Harris Albert Pledger; his mother, Ola Beatrice Baxter Pledger; his brother, Albert Harris Pledger; his sister, Charline Pledger Dean; his niece, Allison Cobb; and his nephew, Paul Dean.

Frank will be remembered for the quiet moments just as much as the big ones. One of the sayings those closest to him will always remember was that he would “walk around the yard and watch the grass grow,” a simple reflection of his humor, patience, and appreciation for everyday life. It is often the smallest routines and familiar moments that leave the deepest imprint on the hearts of family.

He was also known for saying he could “fix anything but TVs and bellybuttons,” a phrase that perfectly captured his wit, resourcefulness, and the kind of man he was. To family and friends, Frank was someone who could always be counted on to lend a hand, solve a problem, or figure out how to make things work again.

He will be remembered for his strength, his presence, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him. Though words can never fully capture a person’s life, Frank’s story lives on in the memories, lessons, laughter, and love he leaves behind.
