Linda Eloise Dolence, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on August 19, 2025, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Born on June 5, 1949, in Atascadero, California, Linda’s life was a remarkable journey marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her profession as a dedicated librarian.
For 25 years, Linda served as a Catalog Librarian in the Virginia Beach Library System, where she touched the lives of many through her passion for books and community engagement. Her career was shaped by numerous Navy transfers, allowing her to embrace the role of a librarian in various locations before finding a long-standing home in Virginia Beach.
She earned her Master’s degree in Library Science from Catholic University after graduating from BIOLA University, reflecting her lifelong commitment to education and knowledge. Linda’s influence also extended beyond her professional life; she was a leader in AWANA in Norfolk, Virginia, for five years and a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship, guiding many through their spiritual journeys.
Linda will be remembered fondly by her devoted husband, Master Chief Donald Dolence, whom she met on a blind date at her brother's home during Thanksgiving. Their love story, spanning over 52 years of marriage, exemplified partnership and unwavering support. Together, they welcomed their son, James, who is married to Juliette, and they created a home filled with laughter and learning.
As a grandmother, Linda's heart expanded to embrace her three grandsons: Robert Joines, Joseph Varvel, who is sadly deceased, and David Dolence. Each grandson held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the time spent with them, nurturing their interests and celebrating their accomplishments.
Linda’s warm spirit was complemented by the loving companionship of her lifelong best friends, Jerry and Marcia Hart, who were always by her side, sharing in both joyous moments and challenges alike.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Kelma and Kurt Herke, and her brothers, Gary and Richard Dobberthein. Their memories remain a cherished part of her legacy, forever honored within the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In her passing, we not only celebrate the profound impact Linda had on her family and friends but also the light she brought to her community. She leaves behind a lasting imprint of kindness, faith, and a infectious love for literature. Linda Eloise Dolence will be deeply missed, leaving a void that can never truly be filled but will be carried in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
