Obituary

Megan Ashley Nelson (née Reynolds), a devoted wife, loving mother, and remarkably strong woman, passed away on April 15, 2026, in Gulf Breeze, Florida, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born in Pensacola, Florida, on March 22, 1977, and lived a life marked by strength and determination that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Megan showed that strength early in life when she survived Hodgkin’s lymphoma at just ten years old. That experience helped shape who she became—tough, decisive, and never one to back down. She attended Gulf Breeze High School, where she served as Student Body President for the class of 1995. She later attended the University of West Florida, where she met her husband, Jason, and began building the life they would share together.

Megan was deeply devoted to her family. She centered her life around raising their three sons—Gavin, Kade, and Landon—but that alone does not fully define her. She had a creative spirit that showed in her passion for refurbishing furniture, which eventually grew into her own space within an antique store. She had a natural eye for design and a talent for making a house feel like a home.

Her proudest accomplishment was raising her boys to become good, well-rounded men, something she worked toward every day. She filled their home with love and meaningful traditions. One of their favorites was the yearly trip to pick out a fresh Christmas tree, followed by lunch at Lambert’s Cafe—simple moments that became lasting family memories.

Megan’s strength is hard to put into words. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at 30 and never stopped fighting. She beat it twice, ten years apart, and even after having a stroke, she faced it again with the same determination. She lived bravely in every sense, even crossing off a “bucket list” item by organizing a family skydiving trip—jumping out of a perfectly good airplane on purpose. She carried herself through every challenge with a contagious smile and those bright blue eyes that lit up every room, even when she was in pain.

Before her passing, Megan celebrated her 49th birthday with a “Celebration of Life” surrounded by family and friends. Being surrounded by that love and appreciation meant everything to her.

Megan is survived by her husband, Jason Nelson; their sons, Gavin, Kade, and Landon; her father, Raymond Reynolds; her mother, Pam Reynolds; and her brother, Tyler Reynolds, and his wife, Juliana. She is reunited with her aunt, Laurie Kaiser; uncle, Robert Kaiser; grandmother, Helen Kaiser; and uncle, Tom Eubank.

The family is grateful to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who gave Megan 19 more years as a mother after her diagnosis, especially her oncologist, Dr. Alejandro Inclan at Woodlands Medical Specialists, who became like family. They also extend their sincere thanks to the team at VITAS Healthcare for the compassionate care provided during her final months.

Megan was strong, beautiful, and fearless. She was the heart of her family, and her impact will be felt for years to come by all who knew and loved her.
