Michael Kevin Gilroy
He loved wandering along unknown paths, kayaking to remote beaches, and discovering what might be waiting beyond the familiar.
Michael “Mike” Kevin Gilroy, 67, passed away on September 7, 2026, after a courageous eleven-month health journey.
Born September 13, 1958, in California, Mike was the son of a career military officer. His childhood was filled with travel and new experiences as his family moved among duty stations in Texas; Wilburton, Oklahoma; Las Vegas, Nevada; Alabama; Virginia; and England. Those early years helped shape the adventurous spirit and curiosity that remained with him throughout his life.
Mike proudly served his country, he was a combat served veteran with the U.S. Army Rangers, earning his place among the Army’s elite special operations forces. His military service instilled in him the discipline, determination, and quiet strength that guided him throughout his life.
Mike was an adventurous man who welcomed a challenge. During his Army service, he was temporarily assigned to Alaska as an Arctic paratrooper, training for extreme-cold-weather and Arctic-warfare operations. He also earned the demanding qualification of U.S. Army Jumpmaster, assuming responsibility for inspecting paratroopers and helping direct the safe execution of airborne operations. His adventurous spirit continued throughout his life. An avid mountain climber, Mike climbed numerous peaks, including Mount McKinley. He was also an accomplished master diver who explored waters around the world and especially treasured his dives into blue holes, where he encountered giant hammerhead sharks. Mike was a free spirit who embraced adventure, sought out the extraordinary, and lived life to the fullest.
Following his military service, Mike built an accomplished career in executive leadership, sales, operations, manufacturing, and strategic business consulting. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Tulane University and began his civilian career as a product manager for Symons in New Braunfels, Texas. He later served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Underwood and as Regional Manager for Patent Construction, where he oversaw operations throughout the southeastern United States, Puerto Rico, Latin America, and the Caribbean Basin.
Mike went on to serve as Senior Vice President of the Sky Climber Group, President of Durand Forms, and CEO of Recon Industries. Through Recon Industries, he worked as a business consultant for corporations across the United States. Mike’s professional accomplishments were considerable, but he found his greatest satisfaction in encouraging others, developing their abilities, and helping them recognize what was possible. Away from work, Mike treasured time with his family and was always ready for an adventure. He loved wandering along unknown paths, kayaking to remote beaches, and discovering what might be waiting beyond the familiar. Whether the journey was carefully planned or completely spontaneous, Mike was usually willing to see where it led.
Mike possessed a quiet strength and never failed to encourage those around him. He believed in lifting people up, helping them see their own potential, and showing them the possibilities of what they could become. He was kind and thoughtful and genuinely enjoyed meaningful conversations with friends. His steady presence, generous spirit, and belief in others will remain among the many gifts he leaves behind.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel Kevin A. Gilroy and Mary Nell Gilroy, and his sister, Deniece Williamson.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Wiseman; his children, Ragen, Griffin Wiseman, Michael and his wife, Kelsey, Reed Wiseman and his wife, Melanie, and Ryan Gilroy and his wife, Lora; numerous grandchildren, a beloved brother- in-aw and sister-in- law, nieces, nephews, and special cousins. Mike inherited a large and loving extended family through Teresa. He truly oved and appreciated the wonderful relationships with all of them- He had a strong connection with Cousin Carol, Lenore and our adored Aunt Sis.
Mike and his family were deeply touched by everyone who wished him well during the final eleven months of his life, prayed for him, sent messages, and offered kindness and support. He genuinely appreciated every thoughtful word and gesture. His family extends special gratitude to Leslie and the nurses at DaVita, as well as Dr. Stallings, for their wisdom, compassion, and steadfast support throughout his care.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
For those wishing to honor Mike’s memory, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization he proudly supported.
Mike lived with courage, curiosity, and an enduring belief in the potential of others. His life carried him across countries, through distinguished military and business careers, down unfamiliar paths, and onto remote beaches, but the journey he valued most was the one he shared with the people he loved.
