In Memoriam: MSgt Michael Anthony Stephens, USAF (Retired)**
August 13, 1954 - September 15th, 2025 

It is with heartfelt reverence that we remember MSgt Michael Anthony Stephens, a devoted husband, father, and cherished friend, who departed from this life on September 15, 2025. Born on August 13, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Gladys and Flem Stephens, Michael's journey began in the vibrant atmosphere of the Jeffries projects during the musical renaissance of the 60s and 70s. Growing up within walking distance of Motown studios, he embraced a lifelong passion for music and the arts.In 1976, Michael married his beloved wife, Erma, affectionately known as Dot, marking the beginning of a beautiful marriage that would last for 50 years. His adventurous spirit led him to join the United States Air Force, where he served as an Aeromedical Specialist at various bases both domestically and abroad. Michael retired with distinction as a Master Sergeant/First Sergeant at Hurlburt Field AFB in 1999, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. Throughout his military career, he was not only an extraordinary leader but also an enthusiastic participant in sports, including boxing, weightlifting, football, and basketball—both as a player and coach.Following his retirement from the military Michael pursued his education with vigor, obtaining a degree in Human Resources from Troy State University. He embraced a new calling as a motivational speaker for troubled youth, passionately dedicating himself to guiding young minds. His final role was that of Assistant Principal and Disciplinarian at Okaloosa Academy, where he was a steadfast advocate for his students, providing counsel and support to all who crossed his path.A man of remarkable passions, Michael was deeply proud of his roots in Detroit, affectionately known as the Big D, or the Motor City. He was a staunch supporter of all Michigan sports teams, boldly proclaiming, "GO LIONS!" His love for music, particularly the sounds of the Dramatics, reverberated through his life, reflecting his joyful spirit. An ever-curious individual, he challenged himself to learn a multitude of skills, from playing various musical instruments to mastering chess, performing magic tricks, creating balloon art, and displaying his artistic talents through sketching and drawing.Michael was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Jennifer McCrain. He leaves behind a rich lineage of love and memories woven by his devoted wife, Erma; his sons, Jay (Corrine), Michael J. (Kimberly), Marc (Nicole), and bonus sons nephews Chris Lewis and Chuma Williams; grandchildren Solei, Prince, Jason; Ava;Marc Jr., Hazel, and Dax; his cherished dog, Cherry Pop; as well as his sisters-in-law, Frances Russell (who introduced them), and Hazel (Mark), brothers-in-law Gregory, Charles (Isola), Ervin, Doug, and Montgomery (Bobbie). Mike touched the lives of many, being known as Uncle Mike to three generations of nieces and nephews. Whether blood related or not, he filled their hearts with love and wisdom. He also leaves numerous family and friends.As we celebrate the life of MSgt Michael Anthony Stephens, let us remember his unwavering spirit, boundless enthusiasm for life, and his unwavering commitment to uplifting those around him. His legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness will continue to inspire us all.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 1PM.
