Patricia Ann Carlson died peacefully Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the age of 83, in Willow Brooke Court at Azalea Trace in Pensacola. She was born in October 1942 in the old Sacred Heart Hospital on Twelfth Avenue in Pensacola. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray Butler and Katherine Butler, and her brothers, Donald and Doyle Butler.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Carlson, her son, Kevin (Alyson) Carlson, her two grandsons, Trevor and Bryce Carlson, two nieces, three nephews, and her dear sister-in-law, Carolyne Butler.
Patricia graduated from Pensacola Technical High School in 1960 with a degree in Cosmetology. She worked at Gayfers Beauty Salon as a Hair Stylist for 35 years before retiring in 1996.
The important things in Patricia’s life were her family and her faith. When Patricia was a young girl, her mother Katherine studied with and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. When Patricia was 7 years old, she began participating in the ministry with her mother. The year was 1949 and she started learning the valuable skills of listening and having conversations with those she met about the bible. Patricia especially enjoyed studying with others and sharing her bible based hope of everlasting life on a paradise earth. Patricia was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 29, 1955. A little over a year later, her mother Katherine died when Patricia was only 14 years old. Patricia’s faith and hope in the resurrection along with the support of the brothers and sisters in the East Hill congregation helped her be strong for her grieving father Ray. The friends in the congregation picked her up for meetings, took her out in the field ministry, and included her in their family trips to attend annual conventions. To Patricia, these acts of kindness were evidence of Jehovah God’s love for her.
In July 1961, while attending a Thursday night congregation meeting, she met a young man and his parents who had just moved to town. Two years later, in August 1963 she married the young man, James Carlson. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage attending the congregation in Pensacola where they first met. During her life of faith she had experiences she considered to be very special privileges, including volunteer work with her husband, at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in New York and attending International Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Italy and Japan. To Patricia, these were very special and cherished privileges of service.
Patricia loved being “Nanny” to her two grandsons Trevor and Bryce. She loved going on trips to get away. She and Jim enjoyed traveling for vacations in all parts of the country, as well as occasional trips to other lands in Europe, Asia, Canada, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Willow Brooke Court for the love, kindness, and dignity they showed to Patricia for the past four and a half years.
A Memorial Service for Patricia will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6100 North Lanier Drive, Pensacola, Florida, on March 7, 2026, at 2:00 P.M.
