Thomas “Tommy” Ned Addy, 66, passed away on Sunday, February 1, following a courageous battle with Bulbar ALS.
After being diagnosed in January 2024, Tom faced his illness with strength and grace, surrounded by the love and support of his family, friends, and care community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jamie Parker Addy; his children, Alex Addy (of Washington DC) and Georgia Addy (Studying for her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in NY); and his beloved dogs Bindi, Foster, Mina, a collection of cats, and feline grandchildren Peak and Poppy.
Tom was the eighth child of Henry Cecil Addy and Mary Pate Addy. He is survived by his siblings Cassandra Addy Evans, Mary Sue Mallory, Henry Cecil Addy II, Dorthy Lea Addy, and Jane Addy Hughes. He was preceded in death by his siblings Anniece Addy Brooks and Elizabeth Addy Raines.
For more than 30 years, Tom worked as a supply director with the Department of Defense and was an avid runner, a devoted beach lover, and the New Orleans Saints’ number one fan. He was always training for a run, relaxing by the water, or watching a game.
Throughout Tom’s journey with ALS, his family is deeply grateful for the unwavering support provided by Team Gleason and the dedicated staff at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s ALS Clinic. Their care, resources, and encouragement helped Tom and his loved ones navigate the challenges of ALS with dignity, strength, and hope. We’d also like to provide thanks to our wonderful hospice nurse Amanda McCaghren, and niece Mary Jane Hughes. Their care and kindness made a lasting difference in his life and brought comfort to his family during difficult times.
Tommy’s legacy lives on through the countless memories he created and the lives he touched with his generous spirit.
The family will be holding a celebration of life at the Odd Colony Brewing Company on March 7th from 11am-1pm. Thank you all for your kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Team Gleason Foundation and Amazing Grace Bully Rescue of Pensacola in his honor.
